Gwen's Drawing

This is a backdated post. Gwen is having a great interest in colouring and drawing lately. I was quite surprised to see what she has drawn many weeks ago. Usually, she would request me to draw for her. She really likes to see me draw...haha..although I'm not a person who can draw well but I try my best..hehe.

This was what she has drawn. Can you tell what she drew?



Actually, she was trying to copy what she always requested me to draw. A family of balloons! Gwen would come to me and say "Mummy, draw a balloon.", "Draw a Baby balloon", "Draw Daddy balloon." When I draw something I have to draw the Mummy, Daddy and the Baby too..haha.

Sauteed Fish With Ginger And Spring Onions

I like collecting recipes. I've been cutting out recipes from the newspaper way before I was married. The funny part is, I don't have many cookbooks but only this ONE cookbook that I've never tried out a single recipe before untill recently. I bought this cookbook about 8 years ago!!


My only cookbook.

I would say this is a good cookbook. I chose a recipe that is easy to prepare. So, I tried cooking the Sauteed Fish With Ginger And Spring Onions. It was really good.




I added the carrots coz I'll have a tough time feeding Gwen if she don't see any of her fav veges on the plate..haha.

Here's the recipe to share:

Ingredients
300g fish fillet (garoupa)
¼ tsp salt
1 egg, lightly beaten
2-3 Tbsp corn flour, for dusting the fish

5 stalks spring onions, cut into 3.5 cm lengths
50g young ginger, sliced thinly
1 tsp chopped garlic
1 Tbsp oil
1 Tbsp sesame oil

Sauce (combine)
½ Tbsp Life Oyster sauce
½ Tbsp light soy sauce
¾ tsp sugar
1 Tbsp Shao Hsing Hua Tiau cooking wine
Dash of pepper
2-3 Tbsp water
¼ tsp corn flour

Method
1. Slice fish fillet into thin slices. Sprinkle lightly with salt and dip into beaten egg then toss in corn flour. Remove any excess corn flour before deep-frying in hot oil for a minute. Use a pair of chopsticks to separate the meat. Drain from oil and set aside.

2. Heat oil and sesame oil in a wok. Stir-fry ginger and garlic for a few seconds until fragrant. Add spring onions and stir-fry for 30-40 seconds.

3. Add sauce ingredients and return the fish to the wok. Cook for a minute again to coat the fish with the sauce ingedients. Dish out and serve immediately.

I cooked Sambal Prawns for dinner just now. First, I deep-fried the prawns. Then fry some chili paste till oil rises, add half tbsp of soy sauce, a bit of ikan bilis granules, salt and sugar to taste.

Dr Gwen Is In The House

Hubby and I bought some new toys for Gwen as a surprise for her birthday. Gwen is a funny girl, when I ask her whether she wants a particular toy the other day, she said NO. I was offerring to buy her new toys but she turned me down..haha. She is quite contented playing with the toys at ToysRus or Jusco and she never asks me to buy her any of them. But it can be quite a daunting task to remove her from the scene..haha.

Here are the toys we bought for her:









She likes the Mickey remote control car although she don't really know how to control it yet..haha..she actually enjoys being chased by Mickey(with Hubby controlling the car). And recently, she loves to play doctor with me after watching Elmo the other day..haha. She would lie down and let me be the Doctor by checking her heartbeat, ears, eyes and even giving her a jab..haha. It surprises me that she enjoyed it so much coz she used to be very terrified of her paed. Her visitation to the paed always end up with screams and cries..haha. I wonder how she'll behave when we really bring her to the paed one day. It will be one of these days coz her last Hep A jab was due many months ago.

She has been playing with the medical set and now our roles had changed. She is the Doctor now. And her name is "Dr Gwen"..hehehe. I took some photos of her examining Hello Kitty..hahaha.

How To Fold A Fitted Sheet Like A Pro

I'm constantly struggling to fold my fitted bed sheets. I fold it the 'normal' way whereby I fold it half first then half again till I'm satisfied with the size. I hate the corners coz they are just awful. That's because I'm folding it the wrong way..haha. So, I googled and found this cool video.

This is good stuff. I think every housewife should fold bed sheets this way..hahaha. Here's the video to share. If you don't understand how it's done, I can't help you...haha. You gotta watch it again and again....and practice of course! ;)

Gwen Is 3!!

Gwen has finally turned THREE today. As we had an early birthday celebration for her last weekend, we didn't get her any cake....instead I baked a dozen of cupcakes for her birthday. This was my first time baking cupcakes. It took me 2 hours to bake, clean and decorate the cupcakes...*phew* Later in the evening we brought along the cupcakes to my parents' house for a simple celebration and dinner.

I'm really blessed to have Gwen. Overall she is a good girl and she seldom fusses...and when she does, that's because she wanted snacks and Mummy don't allow..haha..Sometimes she is quite cheeky too. Nonetheless, Mummy and Daddy Love YOU Very Much, GWEN!!

Family life is many things
And one of the nicest joys it brings
Is having a daughter as dear as you
Who's thought of in a special way
Not only on a special day
But warmly and with love
The whole year through!

What I Bought From Daiso?

The first time I went to Daiso was in Vivo City, Singapore. Initially, we were at IOI mall to do some banking stuff...so we ended up spending the whole day at IOI Mall. This time around I had to check out Daiso coz I've never been to any Daiso branches in KL. Although RM5 per item sounds cheap but being a "woman", we sometimes got carried away..hahaha. I ended up with 14 items..oops..but actually I still wanted to get more stuff..hehe. I think some items you can get them cheaper outside if you really compare the prices.

I wasn't into Bento stuff that much actually. I went straight to the cosmetic section first..haha.


Fake eyelashes(2 pairs!), Eyelash glue, Eyeshadow brushes(finally I got the correct sizes) and a pouch for my cosmetics stuff.

I'm more into baking than Bento-ing..but still I bought the vege cutters coz they are just too cute.

This is a good buy. These wiper sheets are way much cheaper than Kao Magiclean sheets. It works better than Kao's. Also, more sheets in a pack compared to Kao's 20 sheets.

After I've paid for all the stuff, we were prepared to leave Daiso but Gwen didn't want to leave coz she insisted that we pay for this....

Potty Trained In One Day!

I'm rather embarassed when I come across other mummies' blogs if their topic is about "Toilet Training" and obviously the mummies were saying how happy they were when their kids successfully ditched the diapers and were fully toilet trained. That's because Gwen is almost 3 years old and not toilet trained yet!! She is wearing diapers 24/7! It's not that I'm a lazy mummy(maybe an impatient one), it's just that she is not READY at all. Why do I say that? She wasn't able to hold her bladder and her diapers were always soiled. She never tells me when she had peed or pooped. When I put her on the potty, she screams bl**dy murder..haha. All these are obviously signs of not ready to be toilet trained. I had tried a few times potty training her, when she constantly wets her pants and there's nothing in the potty although she does sits on it, I take it she is just not ready. I don't spend the whole day doing it but only a few hours coz I really don't have the patient..hehe.

Today, I gave her a lecture. I told her she is not going to wear any diapers today and she is not supposed to wet her pants. When she wanted to pee, she has to tell Mummy. I'm very happy today because out of the blue, Gwen suddenly told me this "Mummy, I need a POTTY!!". You can imagine how excited I was when I hear these magic words..hehe. I quickly make a mad dash to the bathroom and grabbed the potty and put her on it. A few seconds later, I hear the sound..haha...she actually peed in the potty!! I was cheering like a mad woman and Gwen was very excited too. She said "I'm a good girl."..hahaha...indeed she is Mummy's good girl. She had just one minor pee accident right after dinner. Other than that it was smooth sailing. She peed 7 times and pooped once in the potty..haha..YES..I even counted how many times she did it..haha.

I'm very proud of her coz she was diaper free the whole day and it only took a day to do that! I never used any training pants also. I'm an optimistic person and if she is ready, she will be...just wait for the right time to come and no need to stress too much about it. Now..how to tackle this issue when we bring her out..haha..coz she only wants her green potty!! Can I have some advice on this, dear mummies???

Early Birthday Celebration For GWEN

Gwen is turning 3 next Monday(22 June). Last Sunday, we celebrated her birthday a week before her actual birthday. As my younger sister was back to KL last Fri, we decided to celebrate Gwen's big day with my sister and parents. Also, my Dad's birthday is a few days after Gwen's birthday too. So, it was a double celebration and of course Gwen got the most attention...haha...make the princess happy on her special day lah. :D Luckily, my sister was here coz without her around Gwen won't get her birthday present from her "Yee Yee"(aunt)..hehehe. This year is so different from her previous birthdays because now she is more aware of what's happening and even told me this "It's My Birthday". I was quite surprised by her words actually..haha..I didn't expect that she could remember it was her birthday although I've told her before.

I did ask her what kind of cake she wanted for her birthday...she said she wanted a "Minnie Cake". Sadly, we couldn't get her a Minnie Mouse cake on time coz we bought the cake quite last minute but she was captivated with the Doraemon cake at the bakery..hehe. So, I asked her if she would like a Doraemon cake instead, Gwen says "YES". :) It's actually quite funny how she knows about this Doraemon character coz she never watched any Doraemon cartoons in her life..hehe. That's because she has a small Doraemon figurine toy taken from my Mum's house which used to belong to my younger brother more than 10 years ago..haha..

We had a nice dinner at a Chinese restaurant near our place. We ordered Sharksfins soup, Steamed Patin Fish, Buttered Prawns, Mongolian Chicken Chop and some Stir Fried Mixed Vege. Gwen almost finished a bowl of sharksfins soup by herself..hahaha.. I didn't manage to take photos of all the dishes we had coz I was busy with the food and also feeding Gwen. :P After dinner, we came back to our house for the cake cutting and song singing occasion.

Gwen was extremely H-A-P-P-Y on that day...as if she knows it's her special day..haha. She was very well behaved and was busy talking to everyone. Usually she is quite a shy little girl..haha. And when she receives presents from my sister...her face instantly lights up. That was priceless. Seeing her happy really make my day. :) Popo(grandma) also gave her an angpow. She was quite generous with her Thank You too. She even says "Thank You For Coming" to my family members(I taught her lah)..haha.
