School Holiday - Part 1

I'm glad that Hubby was able to take a week off from work and bring her princesses for their much awaited 'outing' during the recent school holiday. The second week of school holiday was spent going out everyday and also to tuition. Whereas the first week of school holiday, we basically stayed in (Gwen completed some 3M workbooks and school homework) as Hubby was not around.

As it was not a planned leave (coz Hubby wasn't sure whether he could take leave or not), we did not go anywhere far. Papa wanted to bring Gwen to Genting so I quickly book a room at Theme Park Hotel. It was just a night stay.

1. Genting Highlands (4-5 June 2013)

I booked the Deluxe room (comes with a queen size and a single bed). The hotel did some renovation I think coz the room looked much better and modern the last time we stayed at this hotel..haha.

We reached Genting around 2pm and wasted no time checking in first before we proceeded to the indoor theme park. Papa brought Gwen for the rides whereas Mummy took care of Baby Faith.

Baby Faith was very well behaved throughout the trip. She sat in her stroller without any fuss but I have to keep pushing the she is really 'kepoh' looking at people and things.

On the second day after checking out, we got ourselves to the outdoor theme park rather early around 10.30am. Right after we finished our lunch and baby just dozed off after finishing her milk, the rain came...bummer.

As it was raining quite heavily, we decided to head back home.

Can you believe I managed to shop with baby on tow while in Genting. Bought this at was on sale. :)

That was the highlight of our Genting trip. We also had so much fun doing some baking when Papa was here during the holiday.

I baked..yes..after sooo long haha. Bought a packet of chocolate chips some time ago so decided to make some chocolate chip cookies.

Gwen helping me throwing in the chocolate chips.

Into the oven.

Gwen enjoying the cookies.

The cookies was delicious. We had it for breakfast several days and also brought some to Genting..haha.

Below is the recipe for my own record. Feel free to pick up the recipe if you like.

Soft and Chewy Chocolate Chip Cookies
  • YieldMakes about 3 dozen

  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, room temperature
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup packed light-brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 cups (about 12 ounces) semisweet and/or milk chocolate chips

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. In a small bowl, whisk together the flour and baking soda; set aside. In the bowl of an electric mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, combine the butter with both sugars; beat on medium speed until light and fluffy. Reduce speed to low; add the salt, vanilla, and eggs. Beat until well mixed, about 1 minute. Add flour mixture; mix until just combined. Stir in the chocolate chips.
  2. Drop heaping tablespoon-size balls of dough about 2 inches apart on baking sheets lined with parchment paper.
  3. Bake until cookies are golden around the edges, but still soft in the center, 8 to 10 minutes (bake till golden brown for 12-15 mins for crispy version). Remove from oven, and let cool on baking sheet 1 to 2 minutes. Transfer to a wire rack, and let cool completely. Store cookies in an airtight container at room temperature up to 1 week.

Baby Faith is so, so adorable! The choc chip cookies look really yummy. If I have an oven, I will surely bake them but too bad I don't. The pic of Gwen eating the cookie with 2 puppies looking on is so cute :)

Hi, love the pics here. Your mention of Gentings brings to mind I was there involved with a project when they first started to build the road up.
My last visit there was early '80s.

Your girls are really very cute too.
And I guess father's mostly have a soft spot for baby girls. If I had a girl I guess I would spoil her rotten, ha ha.
Have a nice day, keep well.

Hi Mummy Gwen,

Sorry would like to ask you some question about Gwen's Kindergarten as I noticed that Gwen and my girl also in the same school. I am wondering if Gwen join the Beamind English, Beamind Mandarin and Beamind Art programme. I've been wondering which one to go for or whether there's a need to. Can you please give me some ideas if Gwen went through those programmes offered by her kindy? Thanks!

Mummy Gwen August 2, 2013 at 12:01 AM

Hi mlisan,

Thanks for dropping by. Gwen had Beamind Mandarin as it was compulsory coz she was taking the Chinese programme (preparing her for SJKC). We didn't enroll her for Beamind English and Arts as I don't think it's necessary. She was doing quite well in English that time.

mlisan August 2, 2013 at 12:32 PM

Thanks for sharing with me about Gwen's academic experience. I will send my girl to SJKC as well in the future so I guess will enroll her in beamind mandarin then. Thanks a lot dear! By the way I love your blog, been following it since I found it last year. Me too have a daughter. Have a great weekend!
